Paddle Canada Canoe Courses
White Rock, Surrey, Greater Vancouver and Southwestern BC
Paddle Canada is a non-profit organization representing recreational paddlers across Canada. Among their objectives is the development of standard skill sets and promotion of safe and enjoyable paddling.

Basic Lakewater Tandem  Course (1 day) - Introduce the participant to canoeing in a sheltered environment. Course covers clothing appropriate for different conditions as well as Transport Canada regulations as they relate to canoeing.  Basic paddle strokes are taught, along with assisted recoveries (rescues).

Introduction to Coastal Canoe Course (1 day) -
Introduces the beginner to paddling with a partner in enclosed and sheltered waters with easy landing options immediately present with low winds and mild sea conditions. The skills and knowledge gained at this level form the foundation necessary for confident and safe travel in more dynamic coastal environments later in the program. Rescue techniques at this level revisit assisted rescues taught in the Introduction to Lake Tandem course but are performed in a coastal environment.

Intermediate Coastal Canoe Course (2 days) -
Provides the skill and theory necessary to paddle with others of similar ability in sheltered coastal canoeing locations. Strokes and maneuvers are to be performed at a higher degree of proficiency than in the introductory program in conditions with greater exposure to wind, waves and possible swell. The skills and knowledge gained at this level form a base for confident and safe travel in more dynamic coastal environments. Rescue techniques at this level revisit assisted rescues taught in the Intermediate Lake Tandem course but are performed in a coastal environment.

Advanced Coastal Canoe Course (3 days) -
Provides the skills and theory necessary for safe coastal canoeing in moderately exposed locations. The program develops the participantís ability to make good judgments about conditions and routes in coastal environments. Strokes and maneuvers are to be performed at a higher degree of proficiently than in the intermediate program and in conditions with greater exposure to wind, waves, swell, current and surf. The skills and knowledge gained at this level enable the successful participant to travel with others of similar ability along moderately exposed coastlines. Rescue techniques at this level revisit assisted rescues taught in the Advanced Lake Tandem course but the true focus is on the effective management of challenging rescue situations in a coastal environment.
